CIK-FIA KFJ - WORLD CHAMPS
Alex Quinn, had been selected by CRG to race in the Premier Junior Karting category, KF Junior (KFJ) for the World Karting Championships.
In only his second weekend on KFJ equipment, Alex was well and truly tested against the finest drivers in the class. With assistance from a Jordan Lennox-Lamb, a KZ2 World Champion and one of British kartings Elite Drivers, Alex got up to speed in testing, posting strong times and knocking on the door of the regular pace-setters.
Qualifying took place with 89 competitors in total, requiring the need for 4 separate sessions, Alex qualified 40th overall. The deficit to pole was only 0.4s, but times were all very close across the board!
Alex achieved 10th, 16th, 14th, 14th and 11th in his heats, in some frantic on track action across the 1200m French Circuit. This left Alex 35th in the overall classification after the heats.
With the Pre-Finals split into two groups, only the Top 17 in each would qualify for the Grand Final. Alex started his Pre-Final from 18th.
On a drying track Alex managed to fight through the pack in what became a storming drive up to 4th place! Setting consecutive fastest laps, he caught the leading pack in the fight for 2nd with a lap to go.
They remained in those positions at the flag, Alex qualifying for the Grand Final of the World Karting Championships at his first attempt.
The Grand Final, saw Alex start in 7th, one place ahead of Michael Schumacher's son Mick Junior.
Sadly Alex's fairy tale World Championship was hit by a loss of power traced to a failing carb. A gutting end to it all, but after the amazing performance in the Pre-Final, Team Quinn were still very much on a high!
Alex would like to specially thank CRG, Euan Jeffery, mechanic Kyle Moore and Jordan Lennox-Lamb for all their help, experience and expertise over this weekend, and for the amazing opportunity supplied at the World Champs.

Just 12 months ago, Alex was racing Cadets, know he has raced in KFJ, for CRG ! A massive learning curve, but Alex has proved himself on the World's stage.
Team Quinn focus now on the finale of the British MiniMax Championships at PFI. Alex goes into the final just one point off the lead. Let's see if he can bring the title to Cornwall!
