EUROMAX - ROUND 2
Top 10 result for Alex in his first visit to the Castelletto track in Italy for round 2 of the Euromax Championship. Racing amidst a field of the very best kart drivers from all over the world, the grid comprised 61 Juniors of which 11 drivers represented the UK.
The weekend before was troubled with Alex's dad suffering badly with a serious tooth infection, however Alex used every minute of track time to learn the circuit and test equipment.
Friday saw Timed Qualifying and the Junior drivers were split into 2 groups, Alex was in the second group.
However track conditions changed and this resulted in slower times for the second group. Unfortunately, Alex didn't manage to qualify too well with just not being in the right place for the optimum small qualifying window. He qualified on grid 18 for each of his 3 heats.
Outside of the grid for the three heats would be a challenge for Alex. His heat results were 13th, 12th and 4th overall.
Having good pace and a terrific third heat result elevated Alex into the main finals avoiding the dreaded second-chance heats.
On a very hot sunny Sunday afternoon, the final 34 drivers set off for the Prefinal.
Alex being on the inside benefited from a great start and during the course of the race worked his way through to near the front. Getting into 4th towards the end, a frantic exchange developed on the last few corners and Alex dropped to 7th.
Happy once again to be on the inside for the start, Alex held on at the start and got a good start. He had chosen to use his new tyres for the Pre Final and so was the highest driver on used tyres for the main event. Getting stuck in, Alex fought for his position and managed to achieve a creditable 10th place.
Now at the midpoint of the Championship, Alex is lying in 5th place out of 61 Drivers in this his inaugural year in Junior Max.
Alex was interviewed live on RGMMC Media, via live TV streaming on the grid before the final and said he was really enjoying going to different tracks in Europe and learning these new circuits.
