EUROMAX - ROUND 3
The third round of the Rotax Euro Challenge took place at Zuera, Spain under bright sunshine and high track temperatures in the mid summer Spanish weather.
Another new track for Alex to learn he settled into a rhythm well over testing as he got to grips with the technical Spanish layout, becoming well prepared for qualifying.
Qualifying saw Alex excel, posting the 3rd fastest time in his group.
With both qualifying groups merged together, however, the second group were overall faster, meaning Alex had to settle for qualifying P8 overall in the classification.
This resulted that Alex would start all his heats from 4th position, giving him a good start into his racing.
Alex was knocked back to 16th in his opening heat, followed by a strong 6th place, and then a difficult final heat, leaving Alex at the back of the pack, before fighting back to 12th at the flag.
These setbacks meant Alex started the Pre-Final from 21st position, the race was another feisty one as Alex managed to make progress up the grid before a late scuffle dropped him to 14th at the flag.
This is where Alex started the Grand Final, he managed to salvage a top ten finish in 10th place after a difficult weekend for the Cornish youngster, marred with contact and being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Despite the difficult weekend, Alex maintains P5 overall in the championship as they head into the final round if the championship in a few months time.
Alex is still in contention for P4 in the standings, which he will have a shot at in the final round at Salbris, France as the Rotax Euro Challenge draws to a close.
In the meantime, Alex's main focus will swing towards the British championship, as rounds 4 and 5 come along in quick succession alongside the British Kartmasters Grand Prix.
Stay tuned to see how Alex gets on!
