FURTHER TOP 10 FINISH FOR QUINN

Alex Quinn completed a second top 10 finish having started from the back of the grid to end a highly successful penultimate F4 British Championship weekend in which he wrapped up the Rookie class title.

The Racing Steps Foundation-backed driver was forced to start races one and three from the back row following handling issues in Saturday’s wet qualifying session. That didn’t stop Quinn from moving through the grid to take ninth place in the opening skirmish.

Quinn targeted a similar result in the finale, having scored race victory from reversed grid pole position in race two.

The Fortec Motorsports racer wasted no time in progressing past six drivers in the opening three laps, to 13th position.

Although 1.5 seconds ahead of team-mate Frank Bird, Quinn was unable to pass Arden’s fellow rookie Ayrton Simmons, 0.4 seconds ahead.

But the pair were in luck as contact between Simmons and JHR’s Jack Butel demoted Butel on lap 12 as Simmons attempted to pass.

Further contact ahead between Quinn’s team-mate Jamie Caroline and Carlin’s Petru Florescu promoted Quinn a further two spots to 10th with Butel languishing two seconds behind to the flag.

“I’ve really enjoyed the racing this weekend, although the qualifying less so!” Quinn said. “My target was to repeat my exploits in the opening race and hope for some action ahead to give me a hand. That’s exactly what happened.

“I’m close to fourth and fifth in the championship points, and my realistic target heading into the final round at Brands Hatch is to get into that top five.

“I’ve not driven the Brands GP circuit in a single-seater car, but having gained so much experience this year, I hope I can put that into practice and score some more podiums to help that top five ambition.”
