QUINN confirmed at Steller Motorsport for 2018 British Gt Championship
Alex Quinn is pleased to announce his plans for 2018 to race with Steller Motorsport in the British GT Championship. Alex will partner with Dean Macdonald in the Toyota GT86, Car no #86 and their first outing in the Championship will be over the Easter weekend at Oulton Park near Chester.
Although a change from racing in single seaters over the last 2 years, Alex is looking forward to this new challenge. Following a successful first audition in the car at a very wet Rockingham and very limited testing, Alex is confident that he will adapt to the Toyota quickly and both he and Dean will be able to showcase their skills and be competitive in this large and exciting grid for 2018.
Alex Quinn from the South West of England has race winning success in single seaters already on his cv. After karting Championship wins he switched to single seaters and progressed rapidly. This will be his first season in GT racing.
Alex Quinn “This is an amazing opportunity for me’ said Alex and ‘I would like to thank Gary and Richard of Steller Motorsport, together with the support of YRDA. I also appreciate the support of my personal sponsors for making this happen and, in particular, I would welcome additional new sponsors for 2018.
I am looking forward to the year ahead. It has been a long winter and I am eager to get started in the championship. I am also looking forward to my first trip to Spa in Belgium for the July round of the championship.
My partner, Dean Macdonald is a former karting buddy when we were racing against each other. Now, we will be racing together and we both have the same goal – to race at the front!"
2018 marks the first time that the Toyota GT86 will be fielded for a full season in the hugely competitive GT4 class and Steller Motorsport are entering with a highly talented young driver squad, with the first round of the season taking place at Oulton Park during Easter Weekend, on the 31st March - 1st April.
Steller Motosport campaigns the Toyota GT86 GT4s that are built by sister company Steller Engineering in Buckinghamshire.
Headed by Gary Blackham, who has multiple Championship winning success in BTCC and has huge experience with Touring Cars, Sportscars and GTs on his racing cv. Steller are aiming to show the abilities of the now re-engineered Toyota in top level competition and hope to see interest from other teams in the rapid little GT86.
The Toyota GT86 GT4, based on one of the most popular GT cars on the road, was initially developed by GPRM for GT4 competition. The project passed to Steller Engineering after the 2017 season and rapid progress has been made in ensuring that the now in-house engine programme is providing the power and reliability required to go head to head with an increasingly impressive GT4 field.
The Toyota is powered by a jewel-like 2.0-litre direct injection turbocharged four-cylinder capable (subject to Balance of Performance adjustments) of producing c.400 bhp.
