QUINN FIFTH IN ROCKINGHAM RACE TWO
Alex Quinn scored a fifth place finish in the second race of the F4 British Championship weekend at Rockingham in Northamptonshire.
The Racing Steps Foundation-backed driver, having taken a second place finish in the opening race the previous day, started from seventh position in the reversed grid second encounter.
Quinn made a good start to progress up two places from the start as his Fortec Motorsports team-mate Nicolai Kjaergaard and Arden’s Rafael Martins made contact for the lead, demoting both.
After a brief safety car period, Quinn looked for an opportunity up the inside of his fellow team-mate, fourth placed Jamie Caroline, who repelled Quinn’s advances who was slowed enough to just hold on to his own fifth place with Carlin’s James Pull in his wheel tracks.
That was as close as Quinn would get to challenging, as following a further safety car interlude, his advance began to fade into the clutches of Pull, who braked later than Quinn up the inside of the Deane hairpin to take the place and leave Quinn to settle for a sixth place finish.
However, officials later excluded Pull for overtaking or not slowing down under the safety car, promoting Quinn to fifth place.
JHR’s Sennan Fielding scored race victory ahead of the Arden of Luis Leeds and Carlin’s Max Fewtrell.
Quinn will start the final third and final race of the weekend from fourth place on the grid.
