QUINN FORCED TO RETIRE IN OULTON FINALE

A gearbox problem prevented Alex Quinn from continuing his successful progress in the final race of the F4 British Championship round at Oulton Park.

Having qualified in fifth place earlier on in the weekend, Quinn already scored a fourth and third place finishes as he headed on to track for the last scheduled race of the weekend.

Quinn made a disappointing start to the race though, losing a place to Carlin’s James Pull at Old Hall.

Quinn re-took the place up the inside of Island Hairpin later around the opening lap, but Pull was soon back ahead again at the first corner and from there he sprinted away.

Quinn was in a lonely position with Pull in the distance and Arden’s Rafael Martins over three seconds behind.

But on the penultimate lap, Quinn slowed and was forced to pit with his Fortec Motorsports machine stuck in fourth gear. It forced him to retire with team-mate Nicolai Kjaergaard scoring the Rookie class victory.

Petru Florescu took overall race victory with his Carlin team-mate Devlin DeFrancesco second. Jamun’s Jamie Caroline took third.

“It’s been a very good weekend but one that could have been better,” Quinn summarised. “We’ve demonstrated our pace and taken another podium which is great. We’ve got to forget about the final race, even though we were still in a good position.

“Each weekend I feel that I’m gaining more experience and getting better, so I’m looking forward to tackling Croft in 2 weeks’ time.”
