QUINN LANDS MAIDEN POLE AT DONINGTON
Alex Quinn scored his maiden car racing pole position with an outstanding performance at Donington Park.
The Racing Steps Foundation-backed youngster, who has only driven around the Leicestershire circuit on two official test days ahead of the weekend, took to the circuit in cold but dry conditions for a single lap in order to bed in tyres.
The Fortec Motorsports driver immediately pitted to fit two new slick tyres to the left side of his Ford-powered Mygale chassis.
Quinn soon began to set quick laps, rising up the order and continually setting personal best times, which kept him among the pack of top four drivers.
Having set the fastest time of the session with five minutes remaining, no other racer was able to beat the lap on their final laps.
Based on his second quickest qualifying time, Quinn will line up in second place for the third and final race of the weekend, alongside Carlin’s Max Fewtrell.
The grid for race two will be reversed, based on the top 10 finishing positions from the opening race.
“I was always improving towards the end of the session,” said Quinn.
“The Fortec team chose a really good set-up for the conditions, and I helpfully also maintained a good track position."
“I really couldn’t have asked for a better start. My focus now is to use this momentum and take advantage for the remainder of the weekend.”
