QUINN LEAVES THRUXTON WITH ROOKIE WIN
Alex Quinn emerged from a testing F4 British Championship weekend at Thruxton with a further Rookie class win in race three, solidifying his sixth place in the overall drivers’ championship points.
Starting from 11th on the grid, following a five-place grid penalty handed down after a collision in the earlier second encounter, Quinn began well and was soon into eighth place by lap two and close behind the gearbox of Arden’s race two winner Luis Leeds.
Quinn attempted his move up the order on lap six, looking to drive around the outside of Leeds into the chicane, but with his exit compromised, he fell into the clutches of Leeds once again and Double R’s Zane Goddard.
Quinn lost out to both by turn one, Allard, but he and Leeds continued their scrap soon after, with both exchanging places. Leeds, however, regained his place by skipping the chicane which provided him a suitable gap to head Quinn to the flag. However, race stewards handed Leeds a post-race two-second time penalty, dropping him behind Quinn in the classification.
The eventual seventh place finish handed Quinn another Rookie class victory, continuing his lead in the Rookie championship and sixth place in the overall standings.
“It was a pretty good race from 11th, but it’s still not what we’d hoped for,” Quinn said. “I’m positive that we had good race pace. I’ve learnt even more racecraft, particularly on the quickest circuit on the calendar. I just have to start getting the results that I feel I deserve.”
