Fortec Motorsports driver Quinn, running on slick tyres, set an initial warming up lap time of 1m 59.501s before three drivers, including Quinn, were caught out by a damp patch on the track.

Quinn lost the rear end of the car, slid on to the wet grass and collided with the barrier, preventing any further running and ensuring that he would start the first and final races from the back of the grid.

“We waited until 16 minutes remaining in the session to go out on to the track on new slicks,” Quinn said. “I was unlucky really. It was unfortunate for all the three drivers that went out. There was heavy rain overnight and that part of the track was a lot less grippy than the rest of the circuit. I hit a damp patch, spun round and ran straight into barrier from there.

“The weather is a bit hit and miss, so it might rain for the opening race which could be handy. There’s quite a large difference in pace to those I’m lining up against ahead so the target is to get through there and be involved in the top eight for the reversed grid race two.”
