ROTAX INTERNATIONAL OPEN
Alex Quinn has managed to win a prestigious ticket to the Rotax Max World Finals, the World Championships for the Rotax classes.
The Coles Racing star came out of a battling weekend 2nd overall, and Vice International Open Champion in the Junior Rotax class, earning the coveted reward of competing at Valencia in a months time for the World Title.
Qualifying gave Alex an initial mountain to climb, suffering from jetting issues for the 5 minute session left him short of pace, ending up 18th on the grid for all three of his heats.
If anything this setback spurred Alex on, taking a 9th, 5th and 6th place finishes in the heats, showing a great turn of pace and race-craft. This left him starting the Pre-Final from P4. As good as this sounded, he was on the un-favoured outside for the first corner.
This proved to be his setback, stuck on the outside of the opening turn, Alex ended up losing out to a train of karts. A hard race followed with alot of combative driving as drivers fought for the highest possible place on the grid for the final. Alex ended up 9th at the flag, gutted with the result, but he had the benefit of being on the inside for the all important Grand Final.
The Grand Final, the last chance to get into the World Finals.
Alex made great early progress, gaining places rapidly through the pack, keeping his nose clean and focusing on the end prize. As they entered the final lap,
Alex was in with a shot of winning the race, however knowing a move for the win would risk attack from behind, he bided his time, aiming for that last remaining ticket.
After coming out of a frantic last corner, Alex crossed the line in 2nd place, Vice-Champion and with the ticket he so craved in his pocket for Valenica!
A MASSIVE THANK YOU TO ADRIAN, AND ALL THOSE AT COLES RACING FOR AN AMAZING SEASON!
A special thank you as well to all of Alex's supporters and sponsors, of which without Alex would not have been able to achieve what he has done this year.
