SUPER ONE SERIES - ROUND 1
Alex had a good run up to the main final on the Sunday starting on P3 of the grid behind team driver Sam. During the race, the lead changed several times, with Alex getting into the lead, but then losing it again.
Towards the latter stages of the race, the leader got ahead and was given the opportunity to race to the flag as Sam started defending against Alex and the other drivers, who were storming towards the Coles Racing team mates.
On the last lap, as Alex tried to find a gap past Sam, Alex was shunted by the kart behind him and forced wide at the first hairpin losing one place, with his rival appearing to gain an unfair advantage.
Luckily Alex regained control back onto the track and accelerated towards the next hairpin, successfully getting the cutback.
Alex was able to get back alongside into the second harpin. The clerk reported that the rival driver looked across and proceeded to drive Alex off the track.
With 2 wheels off the track in the mud, Alex was forced to yield and he was then thrown into a 180 spin.
As fast as he could, Alex got back on track to finish a very disappointing 11th overall.
The Clerk of the Course later reported that 33 had in fact pushed into kart 88 at the first hairpin and camera evidence showed that there was no apparent gap for Alex to move up the inside of kart 88 following the second hairpin.
After a bright start to the weekend, it was a shame for the opening round to end in disappointing fashion. However Alex proved he has the speed to compete for the British Championship in Minimax this season.
Alex managed to come back from a difficult qualifying to salvage a sequence of 3rd places, scoring him enough points to lay 5th overall in the standings.
Despite the frustrations, it is a strong start into a new class, category and championship. Let's see what Alex can do in the remaining 5 rounds.
