THIRD F4 WIN FOR ROOKIE CHAMP QUINN
Alex Quinn scored an impressive lights-to-flag victory to record his third overall win of the F4 British Championship season in race two at Silverstone.
The Racing Steps Foundation-backed driver scythed up from the back of the grid to ninth place in the opening race of the weekend, securing him pole position for the reversed grid second encounter.
Quinn made a lightning getaway, ensuring he led Arden’s fellow front row starter Luis Leeds through the opening corners, and began pulling away by 0.6 seconds as Leeds soon lost his second place to his team-mate Rafael Martins.
Following Leeds and Martin’s brief battle, Quinn extended his advantage at the front to 0.9 seconds after six laps.
But a safety car was required when Quinn’s Fortec Motorsports team-mate Nicolai Kjaergaard tangled with Arden’s Jack Martin on the exit of Luffield, resulting in Kjaergaard beaching in the gravel.
Quinn made an excellent restart, quickly extending his advantage over Martins to over three-quarters of a second, and continued to further pull away to a comfortable 1.2 seconds by the chequered flag.
Quinn will start the weekend’s third and final race of the weekend from the back of the grid following the previous day’s wet weather qualifying woes.
“I made the best start off the line of the year,” Quinn said. “I was then able to build a gap and start to feel comfortable in the lead so the safety car was a disappointment.
“At the restart, I went early which surprised others and began to build my lead. It wasn’t the easiest race with the pace of Leeds and Martins behind so it’s a fantastic result, particularly given our qualifying issues on Saturday morning.”
